I'm with you Fletche. Rocketed through Sly 1, second game doesn't seem even half as good.

And why oh why did they change Karmilita's foxy foreign accent?

I finished Sly 2 last week. Despite loving it first time around, I must confess that during this second playthrough I found it to be unnecessarily drawn out. I kept questioning why I had to pickpocket 6 keys, or hack 4 terminals, or destroy 5 whatevers. Good game but outstayed its welcome by several hours.

Which means I might have to re-evaluate my opinion of Sly 3, a shorter and more varied game. When I first played it on PS2 I didn't like that combination, but now I see the potential benefits.

Finished Sly 1 with the platty the other day. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I can't help feeling totally spoilt by the last few years of gaming. The lack of check-pointing on bosses was incredibly frustrating. I'll leave it a while before starting the second and third game.

Just finished and managed to get the platinum really quickly.

Really good but the boss fights were incredibly frustrating, as Vandelay mentioned above, one hit kills with no checkpoints? Bah! Was going to play them all back to back but going to take a break I think and play something else.

The first game is the only one with one hit kills.

With each sequel it gets more and more lenient and you get a life bar so there's not much to worry about on that count.

That is indeed good news. Still gonna take a break though, got Persona 4 and Final Fantasy VI on the pile and one of them is going to get a long overdue playthrough :)

How awesome is the HD port of these games its fucking fantastic.

Its in a proper 16:9 ratio with no stretching and looks stunning.

Plus with it being cel shaded it looks even better.

Its like having 3 40 games on one disk.

Never played the sly games before but really enjoying them

I am getting really frustrated with the first game. I'm only up to the second section and have to do a horribly bad race or an equally terrible shooting gallery while the hippo runs into my corsshairs. Can't be bothered with it anymore and can't see me starting the 2nd or 3rd one.

Is there no proper Sly 4 thread?

Anyhoo Sly 4 In game footage. Contains a boss fight spoiler.

I didn't realise this wasn't being made by Sucker Punch. Now I'm reluctant to get to excited.

Loving Sly 1 so far (although only 4 levels in) - really refreshing after Heavy Rain. Platinum Trophy - I think so :D

Just to modify my earlier comments. Still really enjoying the game, but the mini games are mostly awful.

Well they're pretty bad, but I'm talking the racing and target practice 'levels' from Sly1

I liked those. They may not have always worked (I hated racing) but I liked that they had so much variety.

Ok, so they're not all awful and they do add variety to the game. I'll simply say that they're a bit hit and miss. Still, they don't detract from this excellent game!

Am three keys into the Swap level. Loving it.

Bit of a Sucker Punch bender as replaying inFamous2 as well.

All finished the first one. Great stuff.

That penultimate level had a touch of Meat Circus about it. Got there in the end.

My first Platinum as well, but I don't feel or look any different.

Agree - great game and one everyone should have a bash at - especially if they missed it last time 'round. I got the Platinum Trophy too ^_^

Sly 2 looks a wee bit tougher from a trophy perspective, but should be achievable :)

Have you tried the mini-games? They're poo, but a source of some super-easy Gold trophies

Yes - although I wasn't a massive fan of some of the mini-games in Sly 1 either... They weren't too bad and did add some variety, but just felt rather poor in comparison to the quality of the rest of the game.

Started playing it this morning and really enjoyed it.

It comes over as European in style, which makes me even more puzzled why Sly Cooper games haven't been a big hit in Europe. :-/

I assume you have to have Move for the Sly Move Mini-Games?

    Nope. Dualshock works fine

The Move minigames are pretty poor - no more than 2-3 minutes worth of play each, and there are only 4 of 'em.

Up to the 4th chapter of the 2nd game and not really feeling it.

The requirement to play as Bentley and 'The Murry" (stop calling yourself that you fuck) is most unwelcome. Especially as Murry as all you do it punch shit. In fact, in the 4th chapter there was one mission where you had to nothing but kill 50 guards - that was it. Pure padding.

However the Sly sections, which thankfully make up most of the game are improving as the hub areas get more difficult and the jailbreak scenario in chapter 4 is a welcome change of pace.

Overall it's not a touch on the first, I really liked the focus on the linear platforming levels with only a touch of variety thrown in, this one is all over the place.

It is getting better but I'm going to be sick of it way before I finish up.

I felt the same way about Sly 2. Murry and Bentley both get fleshed out a lot more in Sly 3, so they feel a lot less like dodgy side missions and more like fully developed, playable characters.

Agree on Sly 2. Loved the simplicity of Sly 1, but the sequel turned into a real slog (it's a surprising long game). I wasn't too keen on the overall structure of the levels, and like you the Murray and Bentley missions felt like filler between the better Sly missions.

Still a solid game, but not a patch on the first.

Apparently 3 is better, though, so I'm looking forward to seeing if I can get the Platinum Trophy hat-trick :)

I don't know if I'd say that Sly 3 is better than Sly 2, but it is a shorter game with more variety (and even less platforming), so it doesn't feel as relentlessly padded out. And as King Eddie points out, there's some surprisingly decent characterisation in there.
