About one in five British adults would turn down an invitation to a same-sex wedding, on the BBC

Is that really anti same-sex marriage or just plain old anti-gay? Or maybe they don't know any gay people so can't imagine what it would be like to have a gay friend or relative inviting you to one.

I can't help thinking it's a bit of a twisted result. How many of the one in five have no problems with same-sex couples but don't approve of the marriage aspect?

80% would be happy to go then.

It's just one of those stupid short sighted BBC polls that they can use to trot out a news story, light on detail but gives them a nonsense headline to run, in lack of any real news or a new FOI request coming to light.

Or some new fangled 'crisis' that's about to happy to society and fuck us all up.

I'd turn down any invitation if it didn't include an open bar.

The same-sex marriage debate keeps coming up because of religion, which is a lot of the reason these sort of stories annoy me. There's a technicality that means there's a way to object to something that most people think is OK.

And FWB's point - I agree. If you get a wedding invite there's often a lot of thoughts about how much you like the people, where is it, when is it, how much will it cost me, etc. A free bar would get my interest regardless of who is getting married.

If it was a same sex marriage and there was no open bar would it be best to be honest about why I wouldn't want to turn up or lie and say it's cos of their sexuality? Which one makes me look like a bigger prick?

I would imagine a lot of the respondents would use the slightly pathetic escape hatch of 'Its fine, it doesnt bother me but I dont want my children exposed to that'.

Double negatives will bite you in the arse there Deckard.

Which I assume is what you were hoping for when you put on the leather chaps.

I said it in a hillbilly way for effect. I'd fucking jump at the chance to try on some leather chaps if I'm being honest.

This is how it starts. Allow same-sex marriage and everyone starts experimenting.

Someone was disappointed we didn't have one at our wedding. To bloody expensive! We gave them a three course meal, which was so big most people didn't finish it, some wine, projects, canapes and scampi FFS! Wasn't same sex, though, so maybe that makes it ok.

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.

What's a Game Jam, and who the hell wrote that?

To be honest I could probably find out by reading that, and I tried, but rapidly started out skipping through it to find the good bit. And then I hit the end.

Yeah. Same here. Genuinely no idea what the hell that was about and lost interest before I got to anything I could hang anything on. Awful writing.

It needs a bit of an edit, but the writing isn't bad. It's like a Tim Rogers piece, only with less rambling and less name-dropping.

EDIT: Mysteriously, a news item about it, with link to said article, is now on the EG front page.

Sounds like Nuts magazine is about dead (going tits up?) BBC article here

Not sure how it was so popular in the first place as you could already see boobs on the internet in 2004. The original concept of magazines like Maxim and FHM was general things men would be interested in, but they soon found out that partial nudity sold more. Zoo and Nuts were the dirtier little cousins even from the start.

It was alright at first. It had actual articles, jokes and stories in it that made it worth reading, just about. Sure, also boobs, but the boobs to stuff worth reading ratio made it mostly worth it, as well as the fact it had a TV guide in it. It was probably 70-80% articles at first. But the time I last read it, it was almost reversed.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

So so cringey, had to close article before I could read it all, but apparently they're in court now over this. People are nuts :-D
