    The ESA responds:

"ESA appreciates President Obama's and Vice President Biden's leadership and the thoughtful, comprehensive process of the White House Gun Violence Commission. We concur with President Obama's call today for all Americans to do their part, and agree with the report's conclusion that the entertainment and video game industries have a responsibility to give parents tools and choices about the movies and programs their children watch and the games their children play.

"The same entertainment is enjoyed across all cultures and nations, but tragic levels of gun violence remain unique to our country. Scientific research and international and domestic crime data all point toward the same conclusion: entertainment does not cause violent behavior in the real world.

"We will embrace a constructive role in the important national dialogue around gun violence in the United States, and continue to collaborate with the Administration and Congress as they examine the facts that inform meaningful solutions."
    From Joystiq

That's a damned good reply in my opinion. Polite and makes the NRA media look like a group of children.

My mother was playing games pretty much right until the end. She loved Professor Layton and Wii golf. I imagine she'd have played a bunch of other stuff but her hands didn't work so well. :(

It's not massively surprising that so many old women are though. I mean you're starting to see the parents of the kids who were around for first real console generations hit those sort of ages now. I bet a lot of them got into it when playing games with their kids, I know mine did.

She must have an impressive pension that allows her to buy a 60 inch TV plus a PS3 and dozens of games.

And it's money well spent :)

Quite shocking, Thai police and navy picking up Burmese refugees and selling them.

A man in his 50's has entered a Ladbrokes in Plymouth, with a handgun I might add, in order to rob it. However upon entering he was set upon by eager punters who could see what was about to transpire and they pinned him down.

During the pinning down somehow he became unconscious. Police were obviously on the scene very quickly and began trying to revive him until paramedics arrived.

20 minutes later he was pronounced dead.

IPCC and general investigation now ongoing. I imagine the legals on this one could get messy.

It seems surprisingly easy to kill people by restraining them. If the professionals can accidentally kill someone by holding them down, I guess the chance goes up quite a bit with amateurs.

@MetalDog It is unfortunately very easy. Which is why we have so much training on it, and mistakes still happen. Best not to judge until full circumstances are known though.
