I'll chip in some cash. They disgust me completely. They're selling us all out to their friends in big business. Thanks, UK Gov. Pricks.

Reason for that big NHS database becomes clear

I would like to fire this entire government into the fucking sun.
    That's got to be threadworthy.

I have read so much shit news about this government in regards to the NHS, police, everything lately that it's all starting to look like notes in the same tune. Little blobs of shit all coming together to form one great steaming mass of not-fit-to-govern.

I'm starting to think i'm in some kind of country-wide trolling attempt by the gov and all their business mates. Really.

I like a conspiracy theory as a good yarn but these news threads are starting to come together now and they're painting a disturbing and scary picture.

The Gov. They're trolling us, yes?

So they're going to give access to an anonymised database of patient records, making the UK the must interesting place on earth for pharmaceutical companies to locate. Sort of creating a Silicon Valley for the world wide pharma industry as it were. Presumably creating lots of jobs for high skilled people, with knock on effects on the local businesses these companies settle near.

Doesn't sound that terrible, unless they fuck up the execution. Given the track record with confidential data in the UK that doesn't seem so unlikely. And it's only really beneficial if you have a surplus of highly educated lab technicians and such. Otherwise you need to import those.
And if the companies then actually contribute some taxes instead of settling in the UK as some sort of R&D subsidiary that only costs money and doesn't make any.

So likely to end up not so good as it sounds but the idea itself seems OK to me.

What would be the point in locating here? There's no advantage given they'd get access to the data anyway with their existing offices (and data isn't exactly difficult to export).

It's more the fact that a) they lied about what the database was for b) They are selling our confidential medical info and we won't see any benefit, because we're not rich cunts with shares for the most part and c) the general ongoing privatisation of the NHS which if left unchecked will result in a pay or suffer system.

All this while we're being exhorted to do charity work. So, we're told to be altruists (which many of us already are) while they flog off everything that makes paying your taxes a worthwhile endeavour.

It's some kind of miracle I can type in anything other than swearwords today.

I am going to FOI request the fuck out of this government until something explodes.

It's almost like the government are acting like a business and we are their product.

Agreed on point A, point B can be fixed so that an pharma that gains from the data must offer it's services to the NHS at a discounted rat.

    C FUCK YOU TORY CUNTS!

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Scary thing is I'd probably trust Google more than the UK government with my data.

I'm not so sure about points A+B - didn't they say early on that they intended to provide such access for research and to make some money to put back into the NHS? Also, I understood the data to be be genuinely anonymised - turned into usage trends and the like, rather anything that identifies users. I could be wrong - I've not checked. Point C - I agree.

On the other point about the Big Society, volunteering etc, the bit that bugs me the most is that we still have to pay tax while carrying out more public services ourselves. I'm almost with the Tea Party on that issue - give us service or return tax to those who pay it, rather than dodge it. Maybe those who do this volunteering should get the tax breaks, rather than those who gobble up large public service contracts only to fuck everything up and hide the money in the BVI or wherever.

This post is unsuitable for those with a high rumour-sensitivity.

You seemed to have missed the anonymised bit. Plus, providing massive amounts of data for statistical analysis doesn't equal offering everyone the possibility to access individuals private record's willy nilly.

I would very much like to know if members of the cabinet have opted out.

If its the grandma's bf what done it, I hope there's a special place in hell for him with a prelude of some nice prison justice before he gets there

    /sigh

Addo's never in the news for a nice reason is it.

Pure WTF though, they've been turning the town upside down trying to find that girl. The police along with half the town searching and leafletting all week, with missing posters on almost every surface.

And the whole time her body was at her grandmothers. Strange I'd thought the house would have been the first place searched, if only for clues for where she was.

We don't know for certain yet whose body this is. It's likely the missing girl, but that isn't confirmed.

The house would have been searched as standard procedure, however pulling up turf and floor boards is just not possible without a real believe she is hidden there or that she is missing for long enough hence search today. It was only the dogs that found her.

Could you imagine if you reported your daughter missing and the same day they pulled up your patio?
