Registered 8 years ago@fletch7100 That is fairly amazing. They just have no fire discipline at all. One shot goes off and they all start blazing away. I guess you have adrenaline involved in such situations but it’s difficult to see how the police could feel that threatened in that situation given how many of them there were and that guy only had a knife. Seemed like the exact situation tasers were designed for.

Registered 5 years agoThat really is scary. Do many cops not bother with tasers or are few of them equipped with one? At least maybe put one in his leg instead of throwing 30 rounds into someone.

Registered 8 years ago@BillMurray No idea really. It probably varies between police department knowing the US. A gun would certainly be closer to hand I would think though as they obviously carry them but would probably have to retrieve a Taser from the car.
Anyway crazy guy who is no threat to you because you have a gun but will not act reasonably is the ideal situation for a Taser.

Registered 6 years agoTerror-related can be a dog whistle, but it's also a (linguistically not very useful) way of referencing explicitly politicised attacks - I kill you because you occupy **** etc.
'Terror' is a terrible word to use for it, as guns=terror in my head - any gun. -

McVeigh was referred to as a "domestic terrorist" in 1995 for railing against the 'establishment' ie. federal government. James Holmes, as far as I've read, hasn't been cited as a terrorist, He's "mentally ill" apparently in 2012 - not "terror-related" despite the word being that he was railing against 'the establishment' treating him unfairly ie. his university and academia at large. It's not hard to jump to the conclusion that "terror-related" is a word reserved in the US media for muslims now, post-911.

I'm wondering when the term 'dog whistle' became part of the lexicon. I follow US politics and media closely and only began to see it appear with great regularity early summer this year.
Anyway, terrorism and 'argh! terrorism!!!" are two different things. One is a defined word and the other is a part of a headline. -
