I don't get why there aren't punishments for people who are so willfully negligent.

Well, I do get it. Still, the culture needs changing so bad that having consequences for 'accidents' would help.

If only there were some good guys with good guns around to stop these bad guns before they had a chance to go off.

Looking like it was just two people pissed at each other. Nothing to see here.

There was also the recent case of a 15 year old who gunned down his parents and 3 siblings with an assault rifle.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-21110435

I'm surprised this one flew under the radar, as the circumstances as reported by other news outlets seem almost too perfect amidst the recent guns and video game violence debate:

The gunman was a teenager (who undoubtedly played video games).

Apparently he had an obsession with military stuff and was always seen by neighbours wearing camouflage clothing (which I suppose kind of defeats the purpose).

The gun he used was apparently the same kind of AR-15 assault rifle that has been implicated in other shootings and is the subject of the gun control debate.

    [/link]

    From the article
LOS ANGELES A fired police officer who threatened to bring "warfare" to the Los Angeles Police Department went on a shooting rampage that left a policeman and two others dead and set off an extraordinary manhunt Thursday that put Southern California on edge, led hair-trigger officers to mistakenly shoot at innocent citizens and forced police to guard their own.

I'm in the LA area and that story is absolutely everywhere right now. The electronic signs above the motorways give details about the killer's car, though it's now been found burnt to a crisp a couple hours outside the city. A couple police officers actually shot at a driver and her passenger because they were in a car that 'kind of' looked like the one they were looking for... Absolutely mental. I worry about what news I'll be hearing on the radio during tomorrow morning's commute.

That would never have happened if there were more armed people around. Those ladies should have had weapons on them. Assault rifles preferably.

    From sky news

According to documents from a court of appeals hearing in October 2011, Dorner was fired from the LAPD after he made a complaint against his field training officer, Sgt Teresa Evans.

Dorner said that in the course of an arrest, Sgt Evans kicked suspect Christopher Gettler, a schizophrenic with severe dementia.

Richard Gettler, the schizophrenic man's father, gave testimony that supported Dorner's claim.

This story could get much bigger IF and it's a pretty big IF any of Dorners allegations against other cops is true. Some members of the press could have a field day with this.

Now Dorner needs to be caught and brought to justice. Also it would stop the police from shooting at everything that moves

Just reading over the case report now.

Some issues with Dorners side of things, should have report the incident as soon as it happened etc

Either he's telling the truth and everyone has been watching the film The Negotiator too much or more likely just a lie he started now he believes in that lie instead of the truth

The pictures of their pickup are pretty shocking. That's a lot of blazing away at a target that they clearly could not have identified very well. Apparently the pickup is not the same make or colour as the car they were looking for so it's difficult to see why they started shooting beyond them seeing brown people.

@glaeken American Police aren't like our lot at all. I can't fathom it apart from 'shoot first, cover up later'. It's the gun culture i suppose. When everyone has guns, everyone is paranoid and fearful. Maybe they wanted to be heroes? Who knows.

So glad our boys are unarmed and we have gun laws. We don't need this kind of shit everyday.

So far it's criminal killed 3 people, police shot and injured 2 innocent people in a pickup. Another pickup was shot at by police but no injuries.

I am thinking it must also be a matter of poor training and low entry level requirements to get into the police as well as the gun culture. The levels of incompetence on display are off the scale.

In the mean time any brown people in the area should probably stay indoors and keep away from the windows just in case.

Nope. The officers will be punished by being given a medal and a commendation.

And not be seen in, on or near anything remotely car/truck shaped.

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.
