He is in denial about it

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise half of them are stupider than that

"Denial (also called abnegation) is a defense mechanism postulated by Sigmund Freud, in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence.[1] The subject may use:

simple denial: deny the reality of the unpleasant fact altogether
minimisation: admit the fact but deny its seriousness (a combination of denial and rationalization)
projection: admit both the fact and seriousness but deny responsibility.

The concept of denial is particularly important to the study of addiction. The theory of denial was first researched seriously by Anna Freud. She classified denial as a mechanism of the immature mind, because it conflicts with the ability to learn from and cope with reality"
    No it isn't.

Anyway, this arguing is total toss, more smokin', less bitchin' plz.

You can't really blame MM. Like most convicted ex smokers he just desperately wants one more smoke and will do anything in his power to stay away from it.

    It's a bitch ain't it.

Since my posts in here I've still not fully given up. Was smoking every time I drank, until I got an ecig last night. Really does help with the cravings.

I gave up smoking about 23 days ago. According to my iPhone app, this is what it has done for me so far.

Is that price adjusted for the changing price of cigarettes over the years?

Edit - No, a quick calc says that it doesn't.

I'm fine with taking the end years of my life off, visting my gran in a nursing home if one of the most depressing things in the world.

Although she smoked 30 a day for 70 years so some fucking use that is.

Yeah, but it was all worth it, wasn't it?

I managed to stay away from the craving last night by having an apple and eating it with a knife so I took my time with it, seemed to work fairly well actually so I'm off to the supermarket at lunch to stock up.

The real test starts tonight when I head out to the pub for a few pints.

Good luck. It will be tough. Do any of the people you are going out with tonight smoke?

I would however suggest dying of very painful and long drawn out smoking related disease isn't a great deal of fun for anyone involved either, to be fair.

I found it incredibly hard to quit, especially when I went out with friends as all of them smoke. I'd give in most of the time, and have a couple.

It's taken me nearly two years to not smoke when pissed. I have no will power.

I imagine it would be quite hard if your friends who smoke keep leaving you on your own. I imagine it would have been much, much harder when you could actually smoke in bars / clubs though.

It really is the easiest thing in the world when you've had a shandy or two to accept a ciggy of someone if they offer. As long as you make it clear to them at the start of the night they are not to offer or give you a fag all night and they are a good friend there shouldn't be much to worry about.

I am about 95% sure that if the smoking ban never came into effect I would be smoking by the end of tonight.

Well done Franko, good luck tonight.

Vice, you don't get to smoke any more if you are expecting a baby.

As to the stuff on the other page, nicotine is actually bad for you, we went through this before in the e-cig thread.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

...and didn't cover any of the proven benefits it has. But anyway, lets let that argument die in this thread. It's not helpful to the people trying to quit.

Mate....seriously...... you just fanned the flames and you know you did!!;-)

"It definitely raises your blood pressure, heart rate and restricts the blood supply to your heart and extremities.

It is thought to inhibit the rate at which your body clears up damaged cells, which may make you more susceptible to developing cancer. It is also thought to increase the risk of clots, and raise cholesterol.

So, heart disease, strokes, vascular disease generally. Maybe still cancer. "

Trying to find the benefits.......will get back to you.....

    edit:

Apparently it contributes towards a lower incidence rate of Altzeimers as it causes the synapses to fire faster, plus it increases dopamine and patches have been used to treat depression.

It may also contribut towards a boost in the production of red blood cells which has apparently helped people with diabetes. (patch treatment)

I think Psychotext did have a point about letting it drop to be honest.

    Edit: As did agparrot.

The worse thing about quitting smoking, is getting back your sense of smell. Its not all roses and freshly ground coffee.

What kind of crazy, hair-brained, Daily Mail reading, politically correct gone maaaaad nonsense would lead you to want to give up bacon?

That doesn't cover ANY of the proven benefits that bacon has. Enough derailin', though.

Made through the whole weekend without a single ciggy. That was two trips to the pub as well. Feel quite chuffed with myself as I had a rather hefty session Friday night.
People have started patting me down when they see me in the village now to check I don't have fags on me :)
