I listened to a podcast with Michael Jai White on it and he said the actors aren't just playing the characters in the movie, they're playing actors who are playing characters in the movie. |
For instance, he was "All-Star running back for the Baltimore Colts Ferrante Jones" who has been given his first movie roll playing Black Dynamite. One of the other characters is "a pimp who helped bankroll the film and so was given a roll in the movie".
When they breaks character on the fuck-ups, they are breaking into these characters rather than themselves.
Things happen in the film because the imaginary characters playing the rolls in the film refused to do something that was in the script and so the director (who also has a fake back story) had to improvise around it.
All very meta.
Brap, brap, old chap.
