I agree on principle. For a film that mostly takes place in dream worlds, Inception is quite unimaginative.
1. I didn't mind this DURING the film, but rather AFTER, during the cold analysis stage. During the film I was quite wrapped in it and didn't think "this scene is not cool enough", so I'm not sure if I want to consider this a valid criticism (at least for me, subjectively, it's not valid).
2. I think it was an intentional choice made by Nolan in order to not lose the film's mainstream appeal. Remember, it's a high budged, mass appeal film. You can still dislike his choice, but you should not say that he did it because he's stupid.
