Don't forget also that Pachter recently said that UK pricing of games is a joke (though it was weird he pointed to Dixons...) and that RRP needed to become the price they actually sold at. Which, TBH, is probably why all these companies keep going out of business - because they're the ones who try to, and get undercut by all the others.
All this blocking of second hand etc is to try drive the funds back into the hands of publishers and developers, who are dropping like flies because people buy second hand. This generation will piss off a lot of people, but it's very much necessary to nudge the industry back into one that makes the people in it financially stable companies. I mean, I'd love to see the stats for 360/PS3 sales of a game vs how many people have logged it on their XBL/PSN accounts. They're probably around 1:3...
So take the hit, and buy games new for a generation. In the process, we might find we get sales as good as Steam and reasonably priced digital copies.
