I'm surprised that you seem surprised by the prices. Get Netflix then rent/buy for the 1% of the time you want the film and it isn't there.
Does seem a bit odd to complain about those prices when a DVD/bluray would also be far more expensive. Pay less for slightly worse quality and smaller range or pay more to have it early.
