If you're really struggling early on, there are two weapons that can help immensely. One is called the Drake Sword, and the other is Astora's Straight Sword. One requires patience, a bow, a lot of arrows. The other a suicide run and the master key. Obviously you don't need to get them, but should you find yourself really struggling, then looking them up online should avoid too many spoilers whilst getting you on your way and into the real meat of the game
