Yeah that's the thing in JJ's defence, a lot of the hate is directed at him as director but it was the studio who wanted reboot of an already established crew and the script was wiping out Star Trek essentially so the battle was already lost before he even started filming. He even said at one point fans of Trek shouldn't see it.
