If you're getting caught in the strings, I wouldn't go for a thin pick which flexes a lot. They're mostly suitable for chord arrangements or rhythm parts anyway.
.96 or 1mm should probably be about right.
I find the game uses quite a high gain which means you don't need to pick terribly hard. Exercises will also help you. Eventually you'll just automatically know where the tip of the pick is.
