The Bow (2005) 7/10
The Bow is the seventh Kim Ki-duk film I’ve seen (the other six being Arirang, Bad Guy, Crocodile, The Isle, Samaritan Girl, Spring Summer Autumn Winter and Spring). It has to be said, Kim Ki-Duk films are original, spiritual. Have to admit, i learnt an awful lot more about The Bow by reading the comments on IMDb than I managed to learn simply by watching the film. On the face of it, the story seems straightforward enough, Man and girl live on boat, and they agree to marry once she hits Seventeen. Through him she has lead a simple life, almost Buddha like, and not infected by television, mobile phones, computers etc. Visitors come and go from the boat, and the inevitable happens, the girl falls for someone else throwing the who plan (marriage) into Chaos.
If I were to compare The Bow to the other Kim Ki-duk film’s I have seen, The Bow would be nearer the bottom of the list, as the story did not interest me as much as say Crocodile, or The Isle both of which are my favourite Kim Ki-duk film’s.
I have the DVD 3 Iron sitting here, I wonder how this will compare to the others I have seen so far.
