-Nintendo have marketed this terribly, it looks almost identical to a Wii and it's named in a way that it can be confused for an add-on. They tripped up similarly with the 3DS, non-forum dwelling nerds thought it was a 3D DS rather than a whole new console.
-The unique selling point of the machine (game pad) is nice but it's not a paradigm shift like the Wii's remotes were. It's not as instantly gratifying as the Wii either.
-The power of the console is on par with the still very well supported 360 and PS3, meaning it is directly competing with them. The Wii didn't have this problem as the PS2 had barely any support by the time of its release and the controller made it a unique enough prospect not to be competing with the 360.
-There are very few major first party and exclusive games for the machine out now or out soon.
-Price is a major issue, why pay £250+ for a few exclusives when you can buy a 360 or PS3 for half the price and get all the same multi-platform titles and a lot more?
-The next Xbox and Playstation are just around the corner and are promising to be a noticeable leap in power.
