Incompetent could be a little harsh - after all, how copus mentus are any of us at 3:30am? And if English isn't your first language and you've had absolutely no training on handling a situation like that (she'd only been there a few years), a lot of people *could* easily get caught off guard.
Besides, for all we know, members of the Royal family could well have been calling for an update every few hours. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that someone *could* have called, albeit, quite obviously not in this case.
Hindsight's always 20/20! Just putting it out there - let's see what the facts bear out. No-ones coming out of this smelling of roses...
But regardless, given what's happened it's a bit like discussing whether Diana's car needed a clean or something.
