There is no chat generally, makes it more hardcore.
The UI is entirely shite but that's just ARMA, UI intuitiveness was an after thought. Apparently they've addressed it in ARMA 3 but DayZ probably won't make it onto ARMA 3 it'll no doubt be a standalone game by then.
