Probably been mentioned, but anyone on a Sandybridge Z68 (and up - any Ivy Bridge I think) chipset, I can highly recommend throwing in a 60G SSD and enabling Intel Smart Response caching. It's an extremely effective and cheap way of making that 'not so fast' spinning disk actually quite quick indeed.
