Tips from Minecraft forums: chests in old worlds turn black (haven't looked myself yet) - fix it by placing a torch, this causes the block to "update" and right itself. (the same effect as placing a torch on or next to oddly suspended sand, gravel and water blocks, will update the block and they collapse/flow.)
The seed eggmilf when generated anew appears to be a survival map now. resetting the spawn point (generate world, exit without saving, enter world again) puts you on the ocean bottom near an island with one tree on it. You'll probably starve to death. Under the island is a big cave system, not sure how extensive yet.
