Have you checked out Dawn of War? The original, not the sequel (which is more tactical and about squad management).
I couldn't put a number on the amount of hours I lost to that and its expansions.
In Red alert 2 I also defend my ore trucks off course and attack the enemy's trucks but I have much more freedom and choice when, if and how I do that. Not like in Dawn of War when you HAVE to attack/defend a certain area or you lose.
