I think there are about twenty-five to thirty, plus at least one television series. He's a hugely popular figure in Japan, anyway. The Takeshi Kitano remake is the best of them by a long shot, even if some of the old ones are really cool. My vague knowledge of those films and Lone Wolf & Cub was invaluable in helping me connect with people during my time in Tokyo as a teenager!
