Just got a new PS3 slim, and thought I'd replace the 160 GB HDD it came with, with the 500 GB HDD I'd been using for my now-expired fat PS3.

I can't format the HDD by pressing the PS button, I'm being told that I have to attach a storage device with the latest firmware (3.55), no problem I thought, I just downloaded it via PC onto an external hard drive already formatted for my old console (the .pup file's in the main PS3 backup folder), and the new one doesn't bloody recognise the external drive!

So now I figure I've got to go out and buy a memory stick to apply the firmware, what I need to know before I do anything else is should I format that memory stick before I proceed or not
