You don't hear anything for the first while - we were on a bridge, so definitely wouldn't have felt anything in any case. The sound is loud when it arrives though. What's amazing is how bright the exhaust is, even in daylight - even 12 miles away it hurt your eyes to look at it without sunglasses.
