I completely get this point and I totally agree. I can't recall saying anything that disputed this, but if I did, it wasn't my intention at all.
But nothing is "entirely independent" of anything else! How naive are you?? Do you think modern Christianity in any of its myriad forms would be what it is without centuries of interaction with other world religions?
Okay, you're going faaaar beyond the point now. I'm saying that Islamic extremism exists independent of the West apparentely fucking over the Middle East for oil in the 20th century. I never said it exists in a vacuum or anything impossibly absurd like that.
