First off we have a whole new "event" system. This is totally unique, never been done in a racing game before. Simply, it means that each time you play a stage something different has a chance of happening. It could be a broken down opponent limping down the track, or a group of animals running across the road; even rock falls, forest fires and the weather can change. It means that you have to pay even more attention to your co-driver, which brings me on to...
The co-driver has been radically overhauled. Not only are the pace notes more detailed and more accurate (including the ability to change the delivery speed of them) but he's now got a life of his own. He'll talk to you while you're racing, give you encouragment or berate you, comment on the rest of the race, even crack jokes. It's all semi-random, so you'll never here the same stuff too often. It's geared off a number of different factors, things like your performance, position in the rally or championship overall, how well you take a corner or section, and even how you are actually driving your car (try daudling on the stage a bit to see what I mean).
We also have for the first time ever a suit of classic Group B rally cars including the Audi Quattro and the Lancia 037. There's tons of new Extreme cars, Independents, Super 1600's, and of course the complete field of WRC cars and drivers from this year's season. Oh, and we now have a 4-car Rally Cross mode, playable online to boot!
There's also been a lot of less obvious changes, from an overhauled unlock system, to better and more streamlined menus. To top it off we decided to make a scalable handling model that should finally please both hardcore and casual fans without taking the shaky middle ground. It defaults to all three sets of driver aids on, but you can adjust Traction Control, Brake Assist and Steering Assist sliders to suit your needs, as well as a setup and repair system that has a lot more scope for freedom.
Hope that helps!
jaxon58: Most of those screenshots are from quite early builds, but they've been resized by someone down the line and consequently the quality has dropped. I can categorically state that the game looks absolutely stunning in action. Check out the demo on OPSM if you need convincing...
Furbs: Comes with the territory. Most regulars on here should remember me from a while back, but I took a sabbatical to rllmuk for a year... Anyhoo, I don't mind flames, but just so you know I'm not just a marketing robot. Ask Harry!
