You should avoid making several short trips, your car will be less fuel efficient on sorter trips (3 miles or so). Stop your engine whenever you will be stationary. By having the engine switched off, even for a short period, you will save more fuel than is lost from the burst of fuel involved in restarting the engine. Also consider aero dynamic drag, close windows, take off roof racks etc. Tyre pressure should be at the maximum pressure recommended by the manufacturer.
