I can see the need for extraordinary powers to combat terrorism. In this day and age it's no longer jumpers for goalposts a la IRA.
However, the powers that have been slid along to the authorities,(hands up who knew this was against the law - hush, hush and on the QT) are more damaging to our society then anything a bomber or nutter with a gun could ever hope to achieve.
The UK stands to be a terrifying police state at this rate. If you don't think these powers are being tested out on an acceptable minority with the long-term aim of using them to keep everyone in step and in check than you are a tit. It's no wonder all moves to create a bill of rights for the UK have been fiercely resisted.
