Got a beta invite for this after having registered ages ago, but it's now in open beta so anyone can have a go. I did get a few bonus goodies for applying, but it looks like anyone can sign up.|
Had a quick blast and its very much like SH3 with the visuals slightly upgraded in some ways. Restricted to either periscope or deck view, but the water is really nice (for a browser game) and had a lovely sunset.
Not sure how it's going to pan out, and I am not sure if I like the idea of free to play for it, but the multiplayer may be promising.
Has decent sound, with background music but at the moment at least there are no crew voices which is a shame. Also doesn't appear to have any keyboard controls which is a pain.
Still, its free to try, and looks like you can probably do a lot without spending any money just as long as you don't expect to play too often.
You get a combination of prestige points and credits. I'm not sure at this point if credits can be earned in game or only through real money. Some things can only be bought with credits. Seems you can pay to reload torpedoes at sea, and time skip back to base, along with other upgrades whilst on a mission.
But I appear to have two subs in my fleet so one is heading back at the mo and the other is ready for launch. I assume if you sink you either have to buy a new sub or wait a few days for a new one. So unless you want to play it like an arcade game, and are happy with slow patrols following conveys till the right time to strike, you should be ok.
You do have to wait in a que to start your game, though the time estimate is very inaccurate. It was saying it was going to take days to get into my game, but it was about 15 minutes in the end (I just left it in the background).
Trailer (which clearly has some prerendered stuff not representative of the game): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlqqUAKTNy8&feature=youtu.be
I still wish they would make a proper Silent Hunter for the WiiU though.
