+1 for Aurelius' Meditations; I'm sure it's just a collexction of stoic aphorisms with his name on it but it's a really practical book that I would recommend to anyone who suffers a setback or a bereavement.|
I notice you brits have studiously ignored continental philosophy, so I'd also recommend Derrida's Phaedrus and Foucault's Birth of the Clinic.
