Some people said in their stores it was 4-1 in favour of the PS4 and allocations were bigger for PS4 which may point to retailer preference rather than shortages. Who knows worldwide but Microsoft only gets spooked when profit is involved.|
Safe to assume Microsoft would only change policy if they were going to lose money or the backlash was getting away from them as mass media was getting their teeth into it. Probably a bit of both which is a recipe for disaster.
You could even add their non existent used game trade in and family plan being another factor as it was a pipedream to patch the DRM idea. They had too many reasons to backtrack. Getting found out at launch would have been another one.
