It's hardly a surprise if EA are ditching the Wii U. All of their ports to test the waters have sold horribly. Even the one they actually put some effort into, Need for Speed, only managed fifth in the Wii U-only chart during its week of release, then dropped straight out of the top ten the week after. |
Of course, none of those titles were helped by the fact they were just ports of games from far more established systems, but then that's all the Wii U could have ever realistically hoped for from EA anyway.
It'll be interesting to see what effect it has long-term though, if they do ditch it. Whilst I doubt anybody was ever going to buy a Wii U to play EA stuff, it'd hardly help the general smell of death lingering around the system to have such a major publisher pull out. There's not really any way to spin that as a positive.
