    Hey, just adding my bit.

    Yeah, if you want to be a game designer, you are more of an ideas man. Pen paper and thinking outside of the box brainstorming, are better weapons to use.

    Take an art course and learn to draw, This will help you imagine your ideas outside of your minds eye, so you can build a portfolio to show off. Most things begin as pure concept first.

    Youtube is indeed a good goldmine of tutorials for all sorts of things, Also hunt down a book, The Art of Game Design: A Book of Lenses by Jesse Schell. It'll put your mind where a game designers might dwell. Great book, highly recommended.

    Like someone said, the Mod scene is a great place to earn experience on projects great and small. There's always something going on that requires help. Don't sell your cool ideas short though.

    Don't give up and take heart in the fact that there's more chance now to get in than ever.
