Well, as highlighted recently by Shearer, he is playing in deeper role for fear of getting into positions in the box to score and then miss, and I fail to see any indication Torres is effective at giving a forward what they want. If he could do that he would of displayed that already.
Forwards know better than anyone what a forward wants and needs and can play balls from midfield based on what they know they would want.
Torres has a good touch and has shown in previous years that he knows what a striker is supposed to do. I see no reason why it wouldn't be worth trying, it's not like it's worth playing him up front anymore.
