That is (hopefully) where the loot drops and greater build customisation comes in!|
I hope there's a way to re-allocate spent points at a later date if you make a mistake with your build though (preferably with some sort of cost to provide a bit of balance). I watched a dev video a while back that mentioned you could invest all your points in magic only to come up against a boss that requires a lot of agile fast physical attacks.
I also hope that you can't end up with every single skill in the game during one playthrough. That would dilute the impact of your build decisions.
