I reckon the patch has improved things. Elementals still hit hard, just not stupidly so, plus the relative absence of heavy armour balances pvp and makes more sense. Give it a go!
It also seems that the new content has made sorcery more viable in pvp. The new spells hit like trains, maybe too much so.
Haven't seen it in the notes but I'm pretty sure that the patch has also reduced the invincibility frames on fire tempest etc.
