That's disgusting- clearly the staff member at game didn't have a clue. Make sure you get his name and write down exactly what he told you to do, then write to their customer services department. I'd send a letter if you want a serious response. (Yeah, yeah, who sends letters any more!) Go in and ask him to confirm what the process is with someone else as a witness if you really want to have a concrete case, you could even add a printout of the games listed on your club nintendo account as evidence of all the data you've lost. I wouldn't expect much though.|
Just for anyone transferring stuff over this evening-
The staffer I got at Game today couldn't be more helpful- maybe I was lucky- they let me take the 3DS XL home, do the transfer, then bring the 3DS back in in it's reformatted state for a mighty £100 towards the cost of the XL.
The process couldn't be simpler- both 3DS consoles need internet access, so you go through the setup process on the new XL until you get access, then look up 'system transfer' on the settings in both. Tell one to 'send' and the other to 'receive'- they'll switch to local internets only for you to find the other machine- after that you'll get all the prompts you need on screen, with each console telling you which one to press the next button on. It'll take about 30 minutes depending on data and the connection, and the last 20 minutes you can leave it to run and go off to do something else as it packages up the original system data.
Don't fiddle about with SD cards or your club nintendo account or anything else- just follow the prompts on the screens. One of the prompts will ask if it's OK to pack all the stuff on your original 3DS system memory onto the SD card- say yes, as you want to transfer everything over together.
The only thing I would do before you do the system transfer (if you have an SD card reader for your PC) is to backup the SD card there.
Don't listen to anything else about swapping cards or accounts, just follow the instructions on screen, it takes care of everything, it's really simple.
