Crucially for those parties, if they get into European seats, they get millions of pounds of funding for their political activities in the coming four years. They see MEP seats as being the route to more political power here in the UK. So yes, it's essentially hypocritical and self-serving.|
On the plus side, UKIP has had massive funding - both private and EU - in the past few years, and haven't managed to do a bloody thing with it. They're still totally in the wilderness in terms of national politics. Which is somewhat reassuring.
