Always be behind him, he can't touch you there with either attack. It's best to lock on & strafe, and be on his left side, so that when he does his sweep attack you can reach his weak spot quickly.|
He'll often back you up so that you don't have room to move, when he does you'll have to roll around (in front of him) to get back behind him again. Rolling makes it less likely that his sweep attack hits you while you do this.
