Dunno, to me any third-person game that doesn't feature shooting = platformer. It might not be a platformer in the strictest sense of the word, but very few 3D games are nowadays. And by that reasoning BK most certainly wasn't a platformer either!
Not sure what I'd class The Maw as nowadays, but in old money it'd be an arcade-adventure: can't remember the last time I saw that genre label applied though! Definitely not a platformer, a platformer needs much more of a focus on accurate jumping imo.
I really enjoyed it too. It was a bit easy, but as it came out when I was stuck on the other games I had on the go, it was exactly what I needed at the time!
