    Not only is there genuine consequence, but it weaves all your choices and branches together so seamlessly that it mostly feels like you are playing through the one true plotline. Then you play it again and you realise it hangs together just as seamlessly when so much of the plot comes out very differently.

    My absolute favourite thing was forcing you to make decisions in real time - no characters just standing around patiently waiting for you to choose an option (Mass Effect), and it doesn't even let you pause to cheat your way into a measured decision. You have to make imperfect choices in the heat of the moment and live with the consequences.
