While we're on the Orwell/Huxley dystopian future type books, I read 'WE' by Yevgeny Zamyatin last year when it came into print again - That was the first novel dealing with a thoroughly totalitarian future state.
George Orwell definitely read it and it's believed by him that Huxley had read it as well. It was interesting for me because I can see how it inspired aspects of Orwell's writing.
It was hard work but brilliant - I would only recommend it to someone who likes a challenge, though.
Translated from 1920's Russian, it's not light reading.
