Zack & Wiki gets delayed

Marooned until January.

Capcom has confirmed our suspicions that promising adventure title Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure won't make it into shops this year.

Instead it will be out on 18th January, amid a much airier and more sparse New Year's release schedule.

Zack & Wiki is a cute and colourful adventure title with a few tricks up its piratical sleeves. The most eye-catching is that your Wiimote becomes the prop you need to solve your problems, so if you need to saw down a tree you will need to replicate a sawing motion. See, a saw.

With clever and intuitive puzzles and built-in hints to help alleviate frustration, all signs point to a well thought-out and exciting prospect - probably why it was on our games to buy this Christmas list.

Oh well. One to help shift the New Year blues instead, then.

Pop over to our first impressions of Zack & Wiki to see what we thought of it.

Probably for the best really, as it'd only get swamped by the pre-Christmas deluge of games. This one is still towards the top of my wish list though, so roll on 2008!

    Noooooooooooooooooooo!

Some people would say... not me tho hurrah less games before christmas!

Might actually get a chance to try this one out

As has been previously discussed, this is good news and should give it the opportunity to receive some decent sales figures.

As Nintendo appears to be publishing it, hopefully they'll give it a half decent advertising budget.

    Japanese baby gibberish FTW!!!11

I cannot possibly see how holding it back past christmas is 'for the best' seeing as it's already out in the states and competing against more titles. Surely, in the PAL territories where there are fewer Wii titles a strong title like this will do well over christmas?

I've lost count on the games sitting on my "to-play" list (still wrapped) and my coming pre-orders, so this is probably for the best. I just hope it doesn't sink in the traditionally January sale.

Yep, good move, nice to see Nintendo supporting third party titles by moving them out of the congested pre-Christmas rush into a quiet period where they can market it effectively.

More sales for Zack and Wiki = More Wii exclusives from third parties. Looks like a great game, by the way.

Isn't this old news?...it was reported elsewhere 3 or 4 weeks ago.
  • Ignatius_Cheese #9 4 years ago

This is by no means a key title in the grand scheme of things so where families will be buying Wiis for their respective loved ones and vouchers etc. will be received by elderly relatives (okay, so it doesn't really happen like that...) then people will be looking to pick up fresh titles in the New Year.

And BANG, there's Zack and Wiki on the shelf!

lately EG reminds me of what it was like reading printed magazines... getting news weeks later than it happened. Too busy playing Mario Galaxy me thinks :p

I hundredth that. If it gets more sales that can only be good for these types of games. I can now attempt to get through more games on my to get list!!

Between the 360 and Wii Ive enough games to keep me going until summer - and thats if no games were published between now and then! Happy times.

The news may have been speculated upon elsewhere, but the official news from Nintendo itself was only confirmed via a press release sent out last week and embargoed until this morning.

    @ TheBiGW

It's better to release a niche title in the new year when things quieten down rather than to release the game during the Christmas rush when everyone is busy looking for Need For Speed.

Games like this need to sell well otherwise we'll just get endless shooters and football games, which won't be good for the gamers who like something different ;-).

I'm too busy playing a hell of a lot of games right now (Mass Effect!) to think that this is anything but good news. January ought to be real quiet anyway.

So the Christmas 12 must buy for Wii?!

Zack & Wiki is certainly a must buy especially those who hankered after the good old graphic adventure game of Monkey Island Full Throttle, Beneath a Steel Sky types.

Agree a lot of game will occupy us until 18th Jan, even for Wii only owners, Galaxy will... oh my god its this Frrriiiidaaay!!

Good, I'm too busy with Metroid Prime 3 and the upcoming Mario Galaxy :)

Smart decision, this game would have been killed in the Christmas rush.
