You could always use BitTorrent - Reeves News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

31 July, 2008

Sony Europe boss David Reeves has suggested you could always download PS3 films from Bittorrent while waiting for the PSN video service to launch here - assuming you're not bothered about quality.

"We are a PAL market and we are going to do it in PAL and we are going to do it properly," Reeves told ButtonMasher.

"You can wait for it and you can have it in good quality. You know, you can get the stuff from BitTorrent if you want to and download PSP games, it's up to you."

David Reeves told us earlier this month that the PS3 video service would only be available in the US until the end of 2008 - other regions will be looked at in "due course".

I was thinking maybe BitTorrent.com launched a video store but no alas. Then I thought EG must have quoted out of context. But even that doesn't seem to be the case, although I didn't check the podcast.

Screams trying to convince that BT is the home of shoddy quality.... but then probably hasn't taken into account that people who use BT probably know how to get good quality anyway.

Get movies and games from bittorrent at the same time? Approved by Sony? Result!

So the government wants ISPs to monitor piracy (a lot of which I've heard goes on with these 'torrent' things...), but a Sony boss says use torrent to get PS3 videos legally? How long before someone gets cut off for watching a Resistance 2 trailer?

I do hope he meant the bittorrent comment to be seperate from the PSP games one. Saying "Please just pirate PSP games" is a tad silly.

Errr... yes, but we don't talk about that in public, do we? The mainstream press, the BPI and stasi-style ISPs like Virgin Media have no idea what Usenet is, and I'd like to keep it that way... and let them harass BitTorrent kiddies instead.

;-)

Yes, Virgin Media have never heard of Usenet because it's just so underground...

Try going to virginmedia.discussion.usenet and see if they have ever heard of themselves.

"Context or Advertising Clicks... hmmm? Decisions, decisions...! "

Rationality...I'm shocked! :P

Here's the conclusion to the article - Now I highly doubt David Reeves was advocating piracy but I think he did point out what a lot of people are doing to circumvent the delays that the PAL region experiences, importing becomes more and more popular as does piracy. Of the two options I know which I prefer and as prices remain high with continuing delays importing will only prove more and more tempting.

Not exactly saying please go and use bittorrent is it?

reeves is such and arse, we are one of (if not the) biggest market sony has right now and still they continue to fuck us over. The sooner reeves goes the ebtter i think at least they might pull their fingers out and actually get some quality products/services out on time!! Although in a ll fairness the video store doesnt particularly interest me lol but that is besides the point.

You don't know the context. You don't know whether he was joking or not. Sane people would assume that he wasn't being serious. Naturally you opt for something else. Fortunately you don't have to think before you speak. Wouldn't work anyway.

Almost forgot to add a random and pointless insult. Muppet.

When they do bland corporate speak they get berated. When they joke we take them out of context. Everyone bittorrents these days he's just being sardonic. Still a cock though.
