Having finished this some time ago, I agree with most of the complaints in the review. I think it deserves more than a 5, though.

+1 to Genji

The reviewer seems to have been frustrated by the game, and I can understand why. Like Riviera with RPGs, Yggdra is a different take on a well established genre. That means there are mechanisms you haven't seen before and therefore need to wrap your head around first.

This is an abstract strategy game wrapped in a fantasy coat, perhaps that's why it is hard to accept for some how a "battle" works here. While it's far from perfect it's a most interesting idea, and I had a lot of fun.

There are a few criticisms I find hard to swallow, though: That battles are unskippable, for example. That's because they are not merely small films to illustrate the battle outcome, you are supposed to select tactics and figure out how / when to use the different skills. One might like that or not, but to criticize it just because it's not like in other games leaves a bitter taste.

Agreed about the battles. They are quite interesting, especially once you can use skills. They do, however, drag on for a very long time. The animations for the skills should have been skippable, at the very least. As nice-looking as they are, I got mightily sick of having to watch them 3 or 4 times in a single union.

That coupled with the huge, 3-part epic maps, ensures that some missions will take at least an hour to beat.

Yes, it certainly is not a quick-fix type of game, but that's more of a characteristic, and less of a fault. At least for the target audience it should be.

But that comes from one enjoying playing huge monster board games over the course of a year, so take with a grain of salt. :)

The unskippable cut scenes are the worst thing about Yggdra Union.

I also saw the potential in the game. It is a shame that there are so many annoying things that are easily fixable.

Hey you who wrote that review.. YOU dickhead. period.
I've just finished 76 hours in 6 straight days beating every corner of Yggdra Union, overjoyed and looking for critic reviews to see if theirs applause for the game match mine. But this crap of yours is so unsighted, dirt to my red eyes unslept playing, and that ridiculous 5/10 of yours, too. Let stuff it in your mouth and bury with your head.
