Spring release for SEGA's latest epic.

SEGA has announced that PS3 exclusive Yakuza 4 is heading to "the West" in spring 2011.

The news comes via the SEGA Europe blog (thanks VG247).

We reviewed Yakuza 4 on Japanese import earlier this year, handing it 8/10 and hailing it as a "fascinating cultural artefact".

"Yakuza 3's eventual release gives hope that this series may yet enjoy a bright future on these shores, too," reviewer Keza MacDonald noted, in reference to the release earlier this year of Yakuza 3 in the West.

The fourth game introduces new locations and three new protagonists alongside main dude Kazuma Kiryu.

Oh wow, another year after the original release! If they're making us wait a year for them to translate it, they'd better not fucking cut anything out. Does it really take a year to do add a few extra subtitle languages?

Didn't expect the news so soon, if at all, but good news regardless. I just ordered Yakuza 3. I must say that after the demo, the game engine is getting a little long in the tooth. The animations in particular could do with some more finesse, but it is what it is, and there isn't anything quite like it still.

Well this came out of nowhere. I'm proper happy this is getting a Western release though. I wouldn't think SEGA would have the balls to cut anything this time, especially after the backlash last time. I think that was a real dealbreaker for some people.

No, there are others who don't like Yakuza. Thankfully most have been rounded up and are currently being held at a secure location.

This is excellent news. But I really do hope we get more of this game than we got of Yakuza 3.

I will preorder it. Or will buy it at launch at the nearest videogame store, whatever will be the quickest way to get this game.

I actually hate SEGA - I was pissed off with cuts in Yakuza 3, yet I've bought it at launch and will buy Yakuza 4 - these games are just too awesome to not buy em. They don't deserve to be the publisher of this series...

But they'll get my money again.

Haven't got around to playing Yakuza 3 yet, but am happy that I supported Sega by purchasing it. Didn't think 4 was going to get here, but I guess we must take this as a surprising indication that the third game sold just enough despite a late release and needless controversy surrounding the (understandably) budget-oriented localization efforts.

Still working my way through Yakuza 2 but im really enjoying the series so far. The cutscenes are very well acted and directed - some of the best ive ever seen in a game.

Did anyone get into doing the whole Hostess bar mini-game? People got upset when it was cut from the western release of Yakuza 3 but i've found them pretty boring in the first 2 games. It kinda reminded me of those tedious "socialising" activities you can do in GTA IV.
