Much as I wanted to like it, I mean come on Sega doing Streets of Rage meets Shenmue, never liked Yakuza, grinding combat, mawkish plotline meets terrible swear filled dub, and mandatory crap stealth level.

But Shenmue was the greatest boredom simulator ever made. This sounds even better, with more things to do to alleviate the boredom. So how can it be worse than Shenmue?

Hideous graphics, terrible pop-in, and NPCs that just continuously walked into each other, rather than around them.
I played the demo off of PSN. None of this happened. |

Played the first one, which I was really getting into, only for the ps3 emulation to fail just as the story was getting good >:(
might get the second game at some point, as it apparently works fine |

PS3 games might be region free but that is no guarantee they'll work in other regions. They should work but there could be quirks. For example they might use regional servers meaning you're doomed to play at a disadvantage. They might also not be tested on PAL PS3s meaning problems running in SD. Any content or patches might also rely on you having a Japanese PSN account in good standing which causes other issues.
So yes generally, the PS3 is region free but that is no guarantee of 100% support. |

Yes, if you are considering importing PS3 games you should make sure you wont miss something you'd like.
FYI though, PAL ps3s support all SDTV resolutions, so you will have no problems on a PAL ps3 where as a Japanese or US NTSC PS3 will not support PAL SDTV resolutions (meaning they'll have problems with imports from Europe). |

But Yu Suzuki has left SEGA, and Shenmue cost them over $70 million for the first part alone, so I very much doubt that we'll see the final part of the trilogy.
I read somewhere that it wasn't a trilogy, though. It was going to be about 16 episodes long. In the end, they chopped most of it out, released it on the Xbox, and said it was finished. The story was over. |

@seasidebaz Not quite right - there were multiple chapters to the Shenmue saga, but the intention was to release these across a few titles. Shenmue 1 was just chapter 1, but Shenmue 2, from memory, was chapters 2-5. When the sales were disappointing, I think the intention was to fit as much as possible in to Shenmue 3 and finish it off as a trilogy, only we didn't even get that :'( Anyone who's played Shnemue 2 will tell you the story is far from over, with Ryo left on a relative cliff-hanger plot twist..... I can recommend Shenmuedojo for anyone interested in finding out a little more about the Shenmue saga. I know we'll never get 3, but I do wish SEGA would find a way to finish off the story for the fans. A decent anime would be well received and able to make a profit, I'd imagine..... |

Why is the old school combat system such an issue? I've enjoyed it a lot in previous versions and it's miles ahead compared to other open world games. Can anyone name 1 other openworld game with a better fighting system?
@evild_edd: If you get a chance I'd recommend picking up one of the previous games; they're very cheap and it does feel like Shenmue in many ways. Less mysticism and very much more violent and sweary.

Loving the Shenmue love picked up 2 recently myself and would LOVE 3!
Must try these Yakuza games, gotta get through my current collection of unfinished PS2 first with my (2nd hand) new PS2 but after that it's the GOW and Yakuza games to see what the fuss is about. / dreams of Shenmue 3 and Dreamcast 2..... |

Not really bothered about the story, but I love the real world stuff. Loved that in Shenmue, wasted hours not doing anything useful or plot progressing. Damn I want this game, hope Sega release it over here.
Although truth be told what I really want is Shenmue 3 (Just like everybody else it seems). |

Yakuza 3 is impossible to play if you can't read Japanese
8/10 EuroGamer You can't have all three. Don't get me wrong, I loved Yakuza 2, so 3 looks right up my street, but I think the score was for some imaginary translated version of the game. |

I noticed SCEA picked up Demons Souls recently, so *maybe* SCEE might actually take the pants off their head and realise whats going on with such an awesome game and release it here. I imported mine a couple of months ago, and spent every spare second of my time earning that platinum trophy, most satisfying gaming experience since Gravity Power on the Amiga :P |

Is it just me or does that sound a tad creepy? Yeah, but there's loads of games like that in Japan. In fact, there's one coming out for the 360 soon which is dedicated towards running a hostess bar, and all the ladies there in. |

I didn't know DS was getting a US release! So, maybe there is some hope. I really cba to import it, but I think it's the sort of game that really appeals to the european market. Unforunately, I'm not so sure SCEE know their audience that well. Edit: Bollocks, i probably will order it off Ebay later today. It sounds to good to pass up :)
