SEGA's stamped a 12th March date on the European version of Yakuza 3.

It's been available in Japan for a while, but to Westerners this will be our first taste of the series on PS3.

Meanwhile, Japan warms up for Yakuza 4, which will also be released in March. SEGA doesn't appear to have iterated on much on the Yakuza 3 engine and formula but has dreamt up a new story instead.

I downloaded the trailer for this and couldn't figureo ut what was going on and whether it was supposed to be gameplay footage. Is this a very niche title?

holy shit, thts 4 ps3 only titles within the space of 2 months! god of war 3, heavy rain, MAG and this all have the potential to be top titles. i dnt think ill be xboxing much this year

Does anyone know what the story will be like for people who are new to the series?

I hear Yakuza 3 includes a recap of the events in both the first and second games, so you should be fine. Assuming that's what you mean.

I'll be there day 1 but I need to buy a PS2 and the first 2 games before I jump into 3. Can't wait though. March = probably the biggest release month outside of November ever?

There's no way I'll be playing it any time soon, but I'll buy this at launch just to support it. I fear it'll need all the help it can get given the (lack of) sales of the first two.

I hope they include the Japanese voice tallent though I doubt it. At least if the voices are in English, Mark Hamill will reprise his role.

That's great and all, but what about Yakuza Kenzan?
It pisses me off that Sega just decided to pretend that Kenzan doesn't exist...
As a man who has already played (and completed) the first two games, I have to say that playing Kenzan (which is set in 17th century Kyoto, with samurai and all that), seems way more exciting than playing in 21st century Kamurocho for the THIRD TIME.
Also, I keep reading that, while Kenzan has a great story, Yakuza 3 has the weakest story of them all.
It's still going to be awesome, though. Make no mistake about that.
