XNA community games priced, detailed

Demos yes, Achievements no.

XNA community games for Xbox Live Arcade will cost between 200 and 800 Microsoft Points, Microsoft has announced.

The games, developed by members of the premium XNA Creators Club, will go on sale this autumn.

As previously announced, developers will submit their games to peer-review, after which they will be added to the catalogue accessible from Xbox Live Marketplace.

Developers will receive "up to 70 percent of the total revenue generated by their game", Microsoft added this week.

According to new XNA general manager Boyd Multerer, speaking to Joystiq, there will be three price points: 200 Microsoft Points (GBP 1.70 / EUR 2.40), 400 MS Points (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.80) or 800 MS Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60).

Games at the 200-Point price will be limited to 50MB of space while the other two can go as high as 150MB, Multerer explained.

Each game will be backed up with a demo, as with existing Xbox Live Arcade titles, but there will be no Achievement, avatar or Live Party support.

There will also be no free games, Multerer said, although he wouldn't rule it out for the future.

Microsoft expects this autumn's influx of community games "to double the size of the Xbox 360 video game library", the company said, boosting the number of available games to play on 360 to "more than 1,000 titles spanning Community Games, Xbox Live Arcade and retail blockbuster titles" by the end of 2008.

"The new Community Games channel is currently scheduled to launch in the United States, Canada and select European markets later this year. Other regions will be added over the course of 2009 and beyond," the company said.
