Xbox Originals Burnout 3 on Monday

Smashing.

Burnout 3: Takedown will be making its debut on Xbox Originals on Monday, 14th January at 2am PST (10am GMT), according to the Microsofties at Gamerscoreblog.

It had originally been mooted ahead of the service's launch, but seemed to be replaced at the 11th hour by Fahrenheit - not something we moaned about excessively at the time, or, er, really noticed. Sorry about that.

Still, it means our Xbox Originals roundup is pre-emptively complete. Venture there to be told that "Crash mode also said hello to the infamous Crashbreakers and Heartbreakers, which continue to divide opinion next to the relative purity of Burnout 2". Amazing.

Xbox Originals is a service that lets you download old Xbox games on Xbox 360, a bit like if they were Xbox Live Arcade games, except occupying a lot more space and - annoyingly - with minor bugs.

Like the other Xbox Originals games, Burnout 3 will be asking for 1200 Microsoft Points (GBP 10.20 / EUR 13.96), and competes with Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies, Fuzion Frenzy, Fable, Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex and of course Fahrenheit for your virtual money.

Yay, that should mean a free Burnout 3: Takedown theme and picture pack too, noice!

Does anyone know if there are going to be more additions to the Xbox Originals line up, and what they are?
  • SimonM7 #3 4 years ago

And the wait for Burnout 2 restarts. :)

I wonder when they'll offer things people can't find plenty in bargain bins for half the price.

This one still gets a run out every lads games night purely for Road Rage. Classic gaming on Silver Lake Southbound.

My question would be, will this work with the 360 VGA cable?
  • CreepinJesus #6 4 years ago

Are they going to put good games on the Originals?

Wasn't Burnout 2 published by -now defunct- Acclaim, though? It might be difficult to add that to the list, royalties and all...

Well I'd pay a tenner for a version of Sniper Elite that works on my 360 ... and I may even get this given the utter crapness that was the paradise demo.

    SOLD!

    Great game.

How's everyone managing to find space to store these games on the puny 20Gb hard drive? Has everyone invested in the 120Gb hard drive or an Elite?

Looks like takedown is going for £8-10 on ebay at the moment, so you probably aren't saving much money by getting the physical copy.

I love this game, but have it already on disc. The emulation is good, but not perfect.

Burnout revenge (the 360 port) can be had for less than £15 and that will have online, multiplayer and better graphics.
  • DrDamn #14 4 years ago

Burnout Revenge also comes with worse gameplay. At least they cocked up the takedown mechanism so road rage is screwed. The Crash Zone stuff is good though.

Release the US 60hz versions so they all work over VGA, plus make some kind of effort to iron out the bugs that BC brings, and I might consider it. Until then they are an utter waste of HDD space.

JonFE - "Wasn't Burnout 2 published by -now defunct- Acclaim, though? It might be difficult to add that to the list, royalties and all..."

EA bought the whole franchise out (when was it; 2005?), which includes Burnout 1 and 2. They subsequently re-released B2 platinum, and I doubt what's left of Acclaim is entitled to any royalties since I think they were only on publishing duty.

I am of the camp who holds B2 as still the best in the series. I preferred the concentrated dangerous racing, as oppose to later editions' battling.

Here's a question.... will the online multiplayer work? (Since I heard the servers for this game have been switched off EA-side)

@sabreman: "My question would be, will this work with the 360 VGA cable?"

Well the back-compat disc version does, so I would assume this does too.
  • JonFE #19 4 years ago

Triggerhappytel, I didn't know that; thanks for the info!

So, there might be a chance...
  • BBIAJ #20 4 years ago

@chicknstu: The Burnout 3 servers are up and running fine, unless I was playing this online with my mates the other night thanks to some crazy arse voodoo magic or something...

@sabreman: My question would be, will this work with the 360 VGA cable?

I own a 360 Website and we own over 120 games on the BC list. On my site we have hand tested all of these games and reported on any issues etc. Including VGA compatibility (as I personally use a 19" widescreen PC monitor for my 360)

Back to your question, so far all the Burnouts (physical disks) work on VGA, so I can't see why this wouldn't work.

Although the Disk versions of Halo and Psychonauts DO NOT work on VGA yet they are available as an Xbox Original on the Marketplace. I did try contacting Microsoft to enquire about them adding to the description that they may not work using a VGA cable and got nowhere with the American woman on the other end. She was convinced that I was ringing because I didn't know how to make my 360 Backwards Compatible!!!
